With this application, you can design 3D objects such as buildings, vehicles, characters and much more in 3D and then get the simulation running to test your designs.

Interface

When you launch the application you’ll notice that it has a toolbar which looks like:

Notice that the first button is the “File” button. This button will allow you to import 3D objects and use them in your simulations. The second button is the “Edit” button. This button will allow you to edit the properties of 3D objects or create new ones. The third button is the “About” button. This button will allow you to learn more about J3DWorkbench and how it works. The fourth button is the “Help” button. This button will allow you to learn more about J3DWorkbench and how to use it. The last button is the “Exit” button. This button will allow you to exit J3DWorkbench.

Notice that the middle button is the “Build” button. This button will allow you to create a simulation that you can play back with the application. The last button is the “Play” button. This button will allow you to play back the simulation created with the “Build” button.

Files

As you can see in the first screenshot, you can click on the “File” button to import an object into your application. Notice that you have to navigate to the directory where the object is located. You can do that by navigating to the “file:\” portion of the address bar, or by opening a “File” dialog box. Notice that the file will appear in your application’s window, and you can use the “Select file…” box to browse to other files. Notice that you have to type the path of the file into the “Select file…” box, and type in a name for the file. Notice that the application will prompt you for the object’s filename, if you don’t want to use the default name. If you want to change the properties of the object, you’ll see the “Properties” button appear. Clicking on the “Properties” button will let you change the properties of the object. Notice that the “Properties” button disappears after you’ve finished making your changes.

Unzip the J3D Workbench zip file in a local directory. (You can use the extracted directory instead of the zip file).
Make sure that you have downloaded the latest version of Java Development Kit (JDK) and Java FX SDK for your development environment.
In your environment directory you will find a JDK7.zip file and the corresponding JDK7 folder.
In this case you can open the JDK7 folder and copy the java-7u31-windows-i586-gtk-dev_r28.0.2-1.zip file to a directory of your choice and unzip it.
