”Whoever is asked about me, let him say:

Hudhayfah went to ‘At-Tayyebah‘ and ‘Abbas‘ came to her. The Prophet came to them, and the people asked him about her and said: Who is this ‘Ayyam‘ amongst us?”

In Sahih Al-Bukhari, ‘Abbas‘ was to be understood as her brother. There are no entries of him in the proceedings of the angels in the story of the Prophet’s admonition to Hudhayfah.

Translation: God be praised for all the secrets and hidden matters which He has revealed to you in the Book (the Qur’an) in the method of precise transmission and the most familiar recitation. And the Prophet said to me when I asked him about the meaning of the verse “He who bends himself for the other than God, that is to say, for someone other than Him, will get the fire of hell and the punishment thereof.” And the translation of this is, “And the unbelievers shall burn in the fire of hell and the fire of hell will not be extinguished for them as long as they are at war against the believers.” and he said, and he recited it to me. And I asked him, “Do you allow the slandering of the brother of a Muslim and other than him?” He said, “Yes, they should be stoned till they ask for mercy.”

The translation used here is purely from the views of the commentator and not according to the views of the text as it was meant by the Prophet. It is not clear who is being referred to as the other than God and who is being referred to as other than Him. From the hadith itself it is clear that whoever is referred to as other than God is referred to as the Prophet himself and the reference is clearly in the ablative absolute form. In Sahih Muslim there are (10) hadiths which claim that after this hadith is narrated, this part of the hadith is omitted for the reason that the hadith is the original . So the part, “He who bends himself for the other than God, that is to say, for someone other than Him, will get the fire of hell and the punishment thereof” is an addition by commentators to this particular verse, and this is recorded in many other hadiths as well. As they claim that the hadith as a whole is the original , there is nothing wrong in omitting a part of it, as the Prophet was never a fool to allow it.
