while the game is playable as singleplayer, it might be more enjoyable if you had friends and could play multiplayer with them. for singleplayer, you can join up with a friend, and since this is a long singleplayer, you can choose when to start playing. the gameplay is really enjoyable, and the eastern fronts mod for company of heroes 2 has a look and feel of an eastern front game. however, i thought there were more options for creating squads, and there is a lack of support for us and uk.
