The mini windows ISO is only available on a few sites. You may find it on the Xtream Desktop Mirror site in a download section. This is not the most popular site in the world though as it is primarily a streaming site. For your convenience though I will try and add this link in this post when I find it, it should be later today. As previously stated though there are a few sites where it is the primary file that you can download. One of these is WinRecovery.com/iso since they have the best support.

Your first option will be a pre-installed Win7 Home Premium 64-bit ISO. This will usually be the ISO that is downloaded from the Dell site. To verify that the ISO you have downloaded is Win7 Home Premium 64-bit verify by opening it with Daemon Tools and look for the W7SP1PRO64_ENU_DVD.ISO file.

If you do not find the ISO file, you will have to use a different method. The ISO is not available on the Dell site. You can use any other ISO creator in Windows to burn the ISO directly to a DVD. If you have a DVD burner then you should use the ISO that you downloaded with Daemon Tools. If you do not have a DVD burner you can use the ISO that you downloaded with Daemon Tools. If you have the ISO file open in Daemon Tools then select the burn option and select the ISO file, when prompted, and press burn.

But this is where things are a bit tricky because I am stuck with the original OEM license.
I didn’t do much research into OEM licenses – don’t know if the Dell OEM license requires a recovery disc or not. Nor do I know if Microsoft will allow me to put the Full version of the OEM license on the replacement.
It seems that I need to go with Dell and see if their side of the story makes sense or if it is really just me being paranoid.

Well, fast forward 5+ years. Did a lot of the above with a different employer and we had a situation where we had 3 windows 2000 server machines which were getting hit with nipware infections and cracking scans and loss of productivity. So – I go to work for another company and I’m put in charge of two small groups doing Windows 7 and 8 server installs. First two servers I installed Windows 8 with the MSU DO_NOT_USE_BITLOCKING flag to no avail. The third was a bit different. We did the install and all of my VM’s were copying down the x86 files and not changing the OS. And – that made me go and do a little research because I really didn’t know how this was going to end up. But – for some reason the Windows 7 PE files do not have a fixed size, they are all of various sizes. So I partitioned the hard drive, and made the C: partition small enough to fit it. I then started from a fresh WinPE (didn’t have any installed on my machine. Replaced the machine from a fresh install of Win7, updated the BIOS to latest version, installed the 2 latest UEFI updates, then created the fresh WinPE boot disk. But – all of that effort came to nothing because I couldn’t use the WinPE disk as it wouldn’t boot. Now, I found out that this was a known issue for some users, that the PE disks get checked to see if they’re a valid Windows 7 image. That’s why I wasn’t getting a valid PE image when I tried to boot to WinPE. I was told by a senior IT guy that the old WinPE images probably weren’t valid anymore. But – I went to my work and got hold of a retail copy of Windows 7 and went to the vendor for recovery DVD for Windows 7 / Win 8. After a couple of weeks I was told – I got it. But it wasn’t the one I wanted. And it wasn’t the one that they had sent me. So I went to IT and the problem was narrowed down to 3 options – the retail copy, the OEM copy and the OEM recovery. The OEM recovery is the one I want, and I want it for a couple of reasons. It’s my only copy. 1 – I don’t want to be a second time server. I want to be considered a first time install. 2 – I don’t want to have to buy the 3rd OEM copy and sign it. 3 – I don’t want to lose my recovery disc(s). That’s why I’m so paranoid – I don’t think I can run Linux now.
