Starcraft Real Scale Mod

starcraft: remastered was released in september of last year, but the new and improved starcraft 2 it shipped with is far from perfect. often, the controls and interfaces don’t get things quite right. in some cases, the balance issues only came into play later on, by which point, the whole thing had been compromised. it’s for these reasons, that remastered mods have become a thing. textures get injected into starcraft 2 to get rid of graphical errors, the loading screens get replaced with the same loading screen animation from brood war, unit portraits get updated, and sometimes, it’s even been possible to fix some of the balance issues for the game.

starcraft 2’s multiplayer in its original form doesn’t have a huge amount to offer from a content point of view. the game itself is arcade-perfect and makes no concessions for esports, meaning its one of the most straightforward, but supremely polished, multiplayer games around. it has one unique feature, though, which gives it a dash of life: victory music that loops forever. there’s no middle-ground between listening to the original sound and playing it, and any starcraft play you start is always going to be coupled with a flurry of melodic snappiness.

starcraft: remastered shipped with two maps the developers were particularly fond of, rust and dust. dust is a classic, and you could almost imagine a future where this was all there was. remastered gave the game more variety by including five other maps and two control options, but one of the five new maps is arguably better than the original dust.

ever wondered what an original starcraft map would look like if it had an anime series spun out of it? it might take a little while to get used to, but such is the case with brood war’s single invasion: attack. in this, or any of the five other new single invasion maps, you can play any of the three races, but only the terran can take control of the capital and control any of the four neutral locations. the other races must occupy their own bases, and control their troops using a menu system. that’s what starcraft is, after all: a campaign mode with a glorified multiplayer mode and one tiny, semi-tactical side mission.
