Bunty Aur Babli () is a 2005 Indian Bollywood film directed by Milan Luthria. The film is a remake of the 2002 Telugu film Dum Maaro Dum starring  .The purpose of this study is to evaluate, in depth, an innovative approach to preparing speech-language pathologists (SLPs) for clinical practice. The new approach to preparing SLPs involves a behavior theory-driven model, called Practice-Driven Research (P-DR), which assumes that the SLP’s understanding of the way that the client’s behavior is related to outcomes is critical. Given that SLPs usually do not interact with clients during clinical treatment, it is critical that they be equipped with mechanisms for interpreting client behavior and gaining acceptance for the clients’ behavior during practice. The training will focus on learning how to interpret and understand client behavior, to develop a model of the treatment process, and to facilitate consultation with other professionals. Sixty SLPs will be recruited from two sites in the Baltimore/Washington metropolitan area. The training will involve weekly classroom and laboratory training, as well as three months of field observation at the clinicians’ clinical practices and a community agency where work related to the study is currently being conducted. The degree of fidelity of the training will be closely monitored to ensure that the SLPs’ ability to apply theory is maintained throughout the study. The outcome of the study will be an evaluation of the study’s training approach. Four additional uses for the evaluation will include: 1) determining whether the proposed model has a suitable distribution for implementation of the model into other SLP training programs; 2) determining whether the model is able to be used by clinicians throughout the spectrum of the profession, including those who are new to providing speech-language services; 3) determining whether training through the use of a model, such as P-DR, is effective in developing SLPs’ ability to understand and interpret client behavior, and how this skill is connected to their understanding of the treatment process and the overall success of treatment; and 4) collecting data on the clients served by the clinicians to gain a better understanding of how the SLP’s behavior in practice is related to the outcomes.Perl Weekly Issue #1841 for 29 February 2010.
