How to get current file type in Windows store app?

I am creating a new app in windows store and in app, I want to detect current file extension, the files with extension are in current directory and I want to list all of them.
I have one event handler for that files but in event handler it does not change the current type of the file which in most cases it is a PNG.
I did following code in my event handler which is very similar to the code I found in MSDN but still it does not work.
