The lighthearted skit compares police state socialism to a former white government.

After the Newtown, Connecticut shooting in 2012, a nationwide campaign developed around the expression “thoughts and prayers.” Social media platforms abounded with many using “thoughts and prayers” as a way to show support for the victims and their families. Unfortunately, since the shooter was just a boy, his parents were the “thoughts and prayers” of every American, making the phrase a bit empty. As a joke, the expression was parodied as “thoughts and poo-poo-ings,” and some joked that it actually stood for “thoughts, prayers, and.45s,” not to mention the fact that if a 17-year-old’s thoughts and prayers were any good, he wouldn’t have wanted to shoot anyone.

Until now, though, no one took the concept to the extreme, but now the artistic abilities of a group of students from Southeastern Oklahoma State University has taken the “thoughts and prayers” joke to the next level. Using an image of a police state as a backdrop, the students of SCAD Moscow created a short video to illustrate what their idea of “thoughts and prayers” would look like.

The skit consists of a series of images surrounding the famous words “thoughts and prayers” on a printed sheet of paper that is used as a backdrop. The piece includes a series of displays, each more outrageous and ridiculous than the next. All of the displays show some kind of government overreach, with overreaching police officers and overzealous bureaucrats taking a victim from a court of law and sending the victim to their own “prison.”

La iniciativa del Gobierno pretende regular las estructuras de los centros “vivienda social” de la comunidad capitalina, y es un ejemplo del hecho de que las formas de regular para ajustar el Estado a la crisis, aún no se han cerrado. En esta ocasión la propuesta forma parte del Programa de Desarrollo Territorial de la Región de Madrid, con todos los medios de su competencia, que pretende “respetar la calidad vivienda mediante la propiedad accesible, la diversidad económica y la política de integración territorial”. La normativa propuesta pretende buscar la conformación de una “comisión investigadora” para “examinar las prácticas de construcción y alquiler de vivienda social” que se apoye en los estudios de la Comisión de Políticas de la Provincia de Madrid, “que asumieran la elaboración de estudios y recomendaciones, y la aplicación de medidas (…) que estén en consonancia con la legislación” (página 32).
