Elden Ring

This game is really good.

Have low expectations when I first started playing it, but I was a little surprised on how fun the game is. The game is really easy to pick up, and has very quick progression. Even for a first time player, I was able to reach the end of the game with only a few hours of play time. The action RPG is a lot of fun, and will eventually get repetitive, but it doesn’t take long to go from one stage to the next, so it’s not that big of a deal.

There’s a lot of strategy to playing this game, which works both well and not so well. The strategic element is that you have to find the perfect party composition, since the gem you get from each region has its own benefits. If you go to a general purpose region that has a lot of things you don’t really need, you can get a very powerful additional gem, but if you go to a strong region, you lose out on the gem. Not having what you need at the moment is frustrating, especially if you’re in a bind and need to go back to a random phase. Also, some loot effects involve multiple gem types, so you have to pay attention to the color of gem on the equip, or you might get a gem that isn’t helpful for your team at the moment.

The combat is fun, but really repetitive. In every dungeon, there will be rooms with enemies, and a room with special enemies. The rest of the fight takes place in an area with several enemies, which means you’re going to see the same enemies, over and over. Basically, the most exciting part of the fight is the initial attack, which will have a random chance of a rare random effect that will help you win, or a guaranteed effect that will help you win. The rest of the fight will repeat itself, which gets tedious really fast.

One more thing. You have some other characters in the world that are not in your party, and there’s a special dungeon that they need to unlock. If you unlock a dungeon, you can’t save the progress. You can only do it once, and there are a few requirements to unlock that dungeon. It’s not super hard, but there’s still going to be a ton of grinding.

The graphics are fairly good, and the animations are very decent for a game of its age. I like the soundtrack, and since this is a fantasy RPG, it has a few
