For novice users who want to go beyond picture-editing applications, there’s only one option: the Gimp. Be aware that you’ll be starting over with a completely new interface and command structure.

Defining Photoshop’s Windows

Photoshop has four windows that act as the primary windows for Photoshop:

The Foreground window (also called the Photoshop window or the main window) is the default view for almost any editing task.

The Options dialog box enables you to control features that enable you to manipulate, work on, or apply specific tasks to specific image or layer sets.

The Layers window is where you view or create layers for your images.

The History window is where you store or view your image editing tasks and undo them to your heart’s content.

First, you must open Photoshop, navigate to the desired application window, and then drag it to the primary window of your choosing. This step is called docking the window and enables you to move it around your computer. Figure 3-2 shows the Main or Photoshop window in action.

In addition to the four main windows, Photoshop also has two additional tool windows you may find useful: the Tool Options window (View Options) and the Layer Options window (Edit Options). Figure 3-3 shows the Layer Options window and the Tool Options window.

Mastering Photoshop’s Menus

A menu is a series of options on a menu bar that enables you to alter the behavior of a task or apply a specific task to a set of image or layers. You find three basic menu types (see Figure 3-4): the Windows menu, the View menu, and the Path/Text tool Options menu.

In addition to using the menus, you also can access a menu by clicking the menu item in the top-left corner of the Photoshop workspace (refer to Figure 3-2). This corner menu enables you to access Photoshop’s options, which are covered in the next section.

And finally, you can also create custom menus on the fly. These menus are displayed with the three types of menus described in the following sections and

Adobe Photoshop Elements 11 was released in August 2016, and has been extended to PS Elements 13 in October 2019.

PS Elements 8 and 9

Released in 2009, PS Elements is used for editing, enhancing, and organizing images. It is a complete image editor containing all of the features and tools required to handle a wide range of imaging tasks.

Where you need a professional grade image editor, PS Elements 8 and 9 are a great choice. It was made available in both CD and DVD versions.

The earlier Photoshop Express editions were restricted to Microsoft Windows, but for the last version you have to acquire a Windows 8.1 device.

You can download either a free trial or the full version depending on your Windows edition.

It’s important to download the installer from Adobe site so you can get the latest version to help keep your computer up to date.

PS Elements 8.3 and 9.4 are available for Windows only on Adobe’s website.

When you download the installer, you’ll get a Setup file and a ReadMe file. You have to open the Setup file.

After opening the Setup file, follow the step-by-step instructions.

Features of Photoshop Elements 8.3 and 9.4

Apart from the basic features of a graphics editor, PS Elements 8.3 and 9.4 offer the following features:

Image Repair: Repaired images look better without losing quality. You can fix the following problems:

Red Eye: Red eye is an optical effect that occurs when a person’s eye is closed and light enters the pupil. Red eyes can make faces look creepy, and result in lower conversion.

Saturation: You can adjust the saturation of the colors in the image

Brightness/Contrast: You can make colors more or less vibrant

Gamma: You can adjust the image’s overall tone, which can brighten, darken, or make the image black and white

Spot Healing: Correct small objects that have been unintentionally captured on the wrong area in the image.

Retouch: Retouch reduces the irregularities on the skin and corrects facial features and other small details

These features are available on top, bottom or right panels in the interface.

(CNS): The Ministry of Tourism is encouraging people to set up public toiletries collections to raise awareness of the lack of modern sanitation facilities in Carribean countries.

Acting Minister of Tourism, Mr E. D. J. Rodney has noted that although much has been done to improve tourism infrastructure and services, there is still a need to improve the sanitary provisions and there are relatively few modern sanitation facilities in some of the Caribbean and Central American countries.

In an announcement on Thursday (October 5) by the Ministry, Mr Rodney noted that the sanitary facilities in these countries generally cater for the fewer number of visitors and this creates a sanitation problem in the region.

He noted that these lack of public toilets in an array of nations including Aruba, the Cayman Islands, Dominica, the Dutch Antilles, Guadeloupe, Guatemala, the Honduras, Martinique, Puerto Rico, Saint Lucia, the Virgin Islands and the British Virgin Islands.

“The lack of public toilets, which is often the case in the Caribbean and Central American countries, poses a major problem and becomes a breeding ground for diseases and increased risk of contracting diseases such as cholera and typhoid,” said Mr Rodney.

“It is the government’s intention to develop a strategy aimed at improving the sanitation facilities and services in the Caribbean and Central American countries and also focus on updating the information shared to the public.”

Mr Rodney added that the ministry of tourism is also looking to engage the private sector and the insurance industry in establishing public toilets or upgrading existing facilities.

“We are also inviting other governments and stakeholders to collaborate with us so that we can support and facilitate the setting up of these infrastructure programmes,” said Mr Rodney.

The Ministry of Tourism is inviting the private sector and insurance companies to come on board to support and engage in improving sanitation facilities in some of the Caribbean and Central American countries.

I was pumped to see that this week we’ve got our daily dose of cool today. This set is by the Swiss artist “Tod A. Steininger”. He has been drawing and painting since he was a child and considers himself a self taught artist. His focus is contemporary art and his work is surreal with a dash of fantasy art mixed in. His drawings are an interesting to look at because they really have an upside down approach to the idea of perspective. You’d think a lot of his work would be in a 3-D world but it really looks more like he’s in there drawing out some 3-D objects.

Over all, I found this to be a really cool series and would love to see more of his art. I just hope he doesn’t get as weird with it like he does in this series. You can find more of his work on his site or flickr.

Simply place the mirror in front of a bright light, and you’ll see a complex pattern reflected in the mirror plane. It’s a fun and inexpensive way to earn your “cool” cred.

The mirror gradient will work best if you have a focused light source. For example, if you use a light box, you can just position the mirror so that it reflects the light directly into it, and create a perfect image. To do this, simply set the light box up as shown in the illustration. If your light source is diffuse, you’ll need to reflect it from two separate directions. The top half of the mirror will be reflecting towards the ceiling and the bottom half towards the desk, at about a 30 degree angle.

Use your video editor to create a cool transition. This DIY is extremely easy and will take about 5 minutes to execute. Simply load your video into your video editor and adjust the pan and zoom so that it fits a 16:9 aspect ratio. Next, simply align the video
