As an illustration program, Photoshop also can be used to create and alter digital art, web and mobile graphics, and everything in between. This tutorial covers the basics of Photoshop and how to take a photograph and turn it into a painting. It also discusses a number of other things you can do with the application.

Getting Started With Photoshop

If you don’t have Photoshop, you can download it for free at the official Adobe website (www.adobe.com). It requires a Windows, OS X, or Linux machine and 8 gigabytes of free disk space.

To open Photoshop, click the icon in the lower left of the screen, and in the window that appears, click the “Windows Start” button. If you’re using a Mac, you should see a picture of a computer with a mouse in the lower left of the screen. Click that to open the Photoshop application. If you’re using a Linux machine, there will likely be a picture of a mouse (often a purple mouse). Click on that to open the Photoshop application.

When the application is open, you should see the typical Photoshop interface with the icon of a camera in the lower left corner of the screen.

In the top-left corner of the window, you will see a menu bar with three icons. In this tutorial, we will only cover those three icons:

File–This allows you to open and save files in the program. Print–Opens the Print dialog for your system, and allows you to print a file. Window–Opens the Photoshop workspace, where you can create and alter images.

The bottom-left corner of the screen displays a number of tools:

Tools–When you are working in Photoshop, you will notice that there are tools. Clicking on the small, gray triangle located to the right of the Tools heading will bring up a list of tools, like a table of contents. In this tutorial, we will focus on the different tools available in the Crop Image, Adjust Image, and Image Styles tool panels. The Crop Image, Adjust Image, and Image Styles tool panels are located in the window, right below the Tools option.

Let’s start by using the Crop Image tool. The Crop Image tool allows you to crop your image. If you have ever taken a photograph, you know that you can’t always get a picture exactly the way you want it. For example, if you took a picture of your friend in front

Steps to Make an Image Export in Photoshop Elements

This tutorial is written for Mac users; however, the steps are the same for Windows users as well.

Step 1: Open Photoshop Elements

If you already have Photoshop Elements open go to File > Open and navigate to the folder location where you stored your images. Then open the image you want to work on. If you want to make a new image export, open the image you want to export from the folder location where you saved it. If you want to change the image you have open for an image export, find a different image from the location where you saved it.

Step 2: Open the Image in Photoshop Elements

Look for the Export section on the right side of the Photoshop Elements window. There you can find the option where you can choose to make a new image export or change the image you are exporting.

Click Export and follow the on-screen instructions.

Step 3: Save the Image in a Compatible Format

This is a step where we should make sure the image is saved with the right settings for it to be an eligible image for Photoshop to accept it as a graphic.

Go to File > Save as and navigate to where you want to save the image.

Enter a filename. You can choose the new image to have the same filename as the image you are editing or make a new image name.

Then, select the appropriate Save as Type. If you want to export it as a.psd (Photoshop Document) go with the standard PNG option.

Then, select the size of the image. You can choose the size of your image but we recommend you always to make it at least 300 DPI. In this case, I recommend you to select the 300 PPI size option.

Click Save.

Step 4: Export the Image

After you have saved the image from the previous step, go to File > Export and follow the on-screen instructions.

Step 5: Open the Photo in Photoshop

Go to File > Open and navigate to the location of where you saved the image. Then, open the

# ** Use the Pen Tool**

The Pen tool is a versatile and simple way to shape objects in Photoshop. It works by creating paths on an image that you can then manipulate in other ways. The Pen tool is great for drawing shapes, lines, and curves.

When you use the Pen tool, you will see a red, angled line. This line is known as a _trace_. When you move the cursor, the traces appear on the image and you can edit or delete them as needed.

To use the Pen tool, select the line tool (P) from the Tools panel and then click and drag over the area you want to draw a shape. Photoshop will automatically draw a path around the edge of the area you select. Each time you click and drag with the Pen tool, a new path is created.

1. Choose Pen > Pen Tool.
2. Click and drag across the image area until a shape appears.
